“What a gift. What an unexpected gift.”
Dirk Bedford
Principal, Mitchell Elementary

The primary beneficiaries of the SideWalk Chalk movement are Charleston’s public school students, age 10-18. reaching up.

Imagine:
Seeing your name in print.
Having a story you wrote in Charleston read by someone in San Francisco.
A painting of yours being bid on at an art show.

Imagine being 12.
Imagine finding your voice.
Imagine discovering you have a gift.

When SideWalk Chalk partners with a school
  • community volunteers, mentors, and workshop leaders share their love of writing, art, and learning with students and receive the inherent rewards.
  • teachers enhance their language, visual, and performing arts programs and have a resource for students in need.
  • schools see their English/Language Arts test scores rise.
  • college students are given internship and community service opportunities.
  • parents are insured their children are receiving safe, trusted, and inspiring instruction.
